Zeliangrong bodies to launch agitation

Dimapur, Aug. 8 (EMN): Zeliangrong civil organisations encompassing the states of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland including the Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB), Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF), and Zeliangrong Students’ Union Manipur (ZSUM) have threatened to launch 24 hours bandh from August 15 midnight to August 16 midnight.
The bandh has been called to press the state government as well as the Government of India to book the persons involved in the abduction of students and youth leaders on August 4. The organistaions have alleged that the NSCN (IM) have carried out the crime.

The organisations have announced bandh on National Highway 37 and to cease all construction works of national projects undergoing in Zeliangrong areas.
Zeliangrong civil organisations had served 72 hours ultimatum to the chief minister of Manipur and union home minister regarding threat and intimidation meted to the leaders of the Zeliangrong community by the NSCN (IM) which expired on August 8 midnight.

However, the joint meeting of the civil organisations, which met in Imphal on August 8, had decided to postpone the proposed agitation considering the plan of various civil organisations in Manipur to launch different kinds of agitation.

In view of the above stated proposed agitations by different organisations, the Zeliangrong civil organisations have decided to launch its first step democratic agitations beginning from August 15 midnight to August 16 midnight. It has informed all concerned to extend fullest support and cooperation in the interest of peace and tranquillity in Zeliangrong areas adding any eventuality arising out of the democratic agitation would be at their own risk.

This was stated in a joint press release issued by ZB (AMN) general secretary, Gainithoi Gonmei; ZYF (AMN) assistant general secretary, G Gaiganglung; and ZSUM chairman, Alunbou Newmai.
