Yemhi College students sensitised on social media

Dimapur, Sep. 24 (EMN): Yemhi Memorial College (YMC) has organised a social media awareness seminar cum workshop for the students and faculties with Dilip Kujur, founder and director of Way2Kingdom Media Ministry, as the resource person.
In his address, the resource person spoke elaborately on the impact of social media, internet and online games in our lives in terms of relationships with families, friends and loved ones, society, career, and health.
While pointing out many advantages of social media in this modern era, he also cautioned against ill effect it could impact our lives when it is not used wisely.
The resource person also highlighted on different types of addictions ranging from everyday use such as drugs, alcohol, smokes, tobacco, and cocaine to behaviours like gambling and stealing. According to him behavioural addictions are those not involving a substance. This type of addiction could be an impulse control disorder.
The college principal, Makhan Chetia, also expressed similar concern of the negative impact of social media in his welcome address. He stated that parents and teachers should help curb the problem among the youngsters by playing a major role.
The programme was chaired by Payal Dutta, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by T L Konang, Assistant Professor, Department of History.
