Dimapur, Jan. 15: The 51st general conference of the Yimchungrü Akherü Arihaho (YAA) got underway on January 11 at Y Awünrü village under Shamator sub-division in Tuensang.

R Tohanba, parliamentary secretary of Municipal Affairs, Economics & Statistics, attended the inaugural session as its chief guest. Speaking during the occasion, the parliamentary secretary urged the students to be role models ‘by overcoming all the challenges in life.’ Stressing on the importance of time management, he said there was no shortcut to success. He mentioned what he called the ‘six powerful ethics of life’: ‘To believe before one prays, to listen before one speaks, to earn before one spends, to think before one writes, to try before one quits and to live before one dies.’

Contemplating on the theme of the conference, R Tohanba opined that it is time ‘we reform our life and forge ahead in every sphere.’ Referring to Gandhi’s stance on education, he advised the students to inculcate basic education ‘so as to prepare oneself for a gainful employment.’ In conclusion, he made a clarion call to forgive and forget, to bear and respect each other’s liberty.
