World Malaria Day observed in Tuli and Rokabozou

Dimapur, April 26 (EMN): Intensified Malaria Control Project-3, Mokokchung DPMU under Development Association of Nagaland in collaboration with Ao Students’ Union Tuli Range, commemorated World Malaria Day at Tuli town by organizing a mass rally followed by a short programme and signature campaign.
MalariaA total of 278 Students from various schools, colleges and CBO leaders of Tuli Town took part in the programme.
Special guest for the programme, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Senti Wapang, in his speech lauded the organisers and also urged the students and public leaders to be a change agent and spread awareness on Malaria as Tuli Block has reported high record of Malaria in the recent years.
Imkumongba, District Consultant National Vector Borne Disease Control programme Mokokchung District briefed the participants on malaria prevention and the epidemiological status of Mokokchung district for the year 2016-2017.
Imlima ‘Change Agent’ from Kendra Vidyalaya School Tsudikong village said as a change agent he has been trying to protect his school, family and community and himself from malaria by spreading awareness and promoting good behavioural practices to fight the disease.
Slogan competition was also organised for students, wherein Christian School won the 1st prize followed by Don Bosco School and Tuli College respectively.
Earlier, the programme began with a prayer led by Imchalong, Youth Director Tuli town: president of Ao Students’ Union, Temjenmemba welcomed the participants while District Project Officer, Martha Dukru delivered keynote address. Talitoshi proposed vote of thanks while Rev. Fr. Andrew, Principal of Don Bosco School pronounced benediction.
Along with the rest of the world, residents of Rokabozou colony, Kohima observed World Malaria Day on the theme “End malaria for good”. The program was jointly organised by the Colony Panchayat, Youth and the team of Urban PHC, Seikhazou.
In a brief awareness session, Dr. Aomeren Longkumer MO, UPHC Seikhazou, emphasised the need to keep the surroundings clean in order to stop mosquito breeding and also highlighted various emerging diseases which are caused by mosquito bites. He also mentioned the importance of timely medical intervention in case of any fever like symptoms.
To mark the occasion, sanitation drive was conducted in and around the colony and blood samples were also collected from the residents for further investigation and validation.
Dr. Aomeren, in his closing remarks, urged the colony leaders to take up sanitation and cleanliness issues collectively and make to it an ongoing process to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
Key note address and welcome note was delivered by Colony chairman.
