Wokha, Sept. 22 (EMN): The 28 Assam Rifles (AR) Wokha today observed the World Cancer Free Day at Libemo Memorial School Wokha where the RMO Captain Satya Prakash spoke on the effect and cause of cancer to the students and parents of the school. He was accompanied by Adjutant Maj. Neleish Suryanvanshi.

Capt. Satya Prakash, who spoke about the various forms of cancer like oral cancer, brain cancer etc., explained that the root cause of cancers is mainly due to lack of awareness and also due to personal diet and consumption of intoxicants like tobacco. He cautioned that the higher the rate of tobacco, the higher the number of cancer patients in the country.

Referring to adage ‘health is wealth’, Capt. Prakash briefed the students on the symptoms of cancer and the chances of cure on early detection of disease; he advised the students and parents to be conscious of such symptoms of cancer so that it can help save lives.

Later, the students and the parents signed a pledge to support and stop cancer through consumption of tobacco by making Nagaland fit and healthy.

Earlier, the Assam Rifles also distributed pamphlets for online form to be filled up for SSA and all India Sainik school test to the students.

Meanwhile, the office of the Medical Superintendent of Wokha conducted an awareness on the Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign (MVRC) at the school; the CO of 28 AR Col. Hiren Borah extended support on the campaign to eradicate the disease in the district.

While thanking the gathering, the principal of Libemo Memorial School, Josaih Mitra appreciated them for their ‘interest and assisting mankind’ through the awareness programme by the 28 AR at the school. Saying that the school supports the MVRC, the principal appreciated the concern authority for sensitising them to avoid hoax news through social media since it is a stumbling block in the society.

Meanwhile, the Libemo Memorial School Wokha has been declared as plastic free zone of plastic bags and therefore, the parents and students were asked to restrict themselves from carrying plastic bags to the school.
