World AIDS Day observed across NE region

Imphal, Dec. 1(EMN): Manipur State Government will acquire equipments for hepatitis-C testing in January next year to give relief to the persons having HIV/HCV co-infection.
This was disclosed by the state Chief Minister N Biren while asking the people of the state, NGOs, doctors, health workers and all the stakeholders to collectively fight HIV/AIDS menace in the state.
Biren was addressing at the World AIDS Day – which was held under the aegis of Manipur State AIDS Control Society(MSACS) with theme ‘Right to Health’ at 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles ground at Imphal on Friday.
Stating that the government agencies like MACS together with NGOs have been trying hard to achieve ‘Zero Infection’ rate, the chief minister expressed pleasure that the HIV prevalence rate of the state has reduced considerably because of their dedicated efforts.
As drug addiction is one of the factors towards spreading of HIV virus, he said the government have been launching mass drives against drugs and other intoxicants.
He also said that the state government is all set to implement different social security schemes to support needy people, differently-abled persons and widows besides announcing 57 notified medical testing facilities free of cost in government hospitals while citing that such noble initiatives will never fructify without the doctors co-operation.
He also urged the public to lodge complaints at grievance cell and anti-corruption cells which is opened at CM’s secretariat if they come across any irregularity on the part of government employees including doctors and other health workers.
Speaking at the function as the president, Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar observed that a strong and collective determination is required to tackle the menace of HIV/AIDS.
During the occasion a book entitled, ‘The Pink Book: Your Guide for Safe and Nutritious Food at Home’, was released besides launching a mobile food testing laboratory vehicle.

Diphu, Dec. 1 (EMN): Along with the rest of the world Karbi Anglong also observed World AIDS Day at Karbi Club Rongnihang on Dec.1 Fri.
The observation was organised by Joint Director of Health Services, Karbi Anglong in collaboration with Jiroi TI (NGO), ASTHA TI (KWDS), Emmanuel Hospital Association, Karbi Youth Organisation (KYO), Akhil Bharatiya Vidharthi Parishad (ABVP) and United Lumbajong Development Committee (ULDC).
The programme was supported by Assam State AIDS (Control Society) ASACS with theme ‘Increasing Impact through Transparency, Accountability’
As a part of giving awareness to the public concerning AIDS a procession was also carried out through the Diphu town which were accompanied by school students, holding banner, placard in their hand.
After the procession, a quiz competition was also conducted regarding AIDS among the school students which was presided by ABVP, President Jiten Bey.
