Women Farmer’s Day celebrated in Kohima

Kohima, Oct. 16 (EMN): Women Farmer’s Day (Mahila Kisan Diwas) organized by ATMA Kohima was held on 15th October 2018 at ATMA conference hall, Kohima.
Seyievono, SDAO Chiephobozou, in her keynote address, said women have made a great contribution in agriculture sector by eradicating poverty and enhancing food security. She also highlighted that 70% of farming are taken up by the women folks.
She however remarked that women farmers experienced inequality in wages with their male counterparts and are also deprived from ownership of lands.
She also appraised that the role of women in farming was recognised and the government has recognised various programmes and policies targeted especially for women.
Success stories were shared by Posanu Mekro on SRI, Neilhouvo on Sericulture, Rusile Khing shared on the success of Ngvu Logwa (FIG), Mesechu Kiewhuo shared her success on tea plantation, tea making process and its benefits and Neizonuo, shared her success on integrated farming.
Short video clips on dish wash gel making, local detergent preparation in local dialect and documentation on Tea plantation were also shown to the participants.
The programme was chaired by Rokoshuno Angela, Dy. Project director (ATMA), Kohima. Altogether 32 women farmers from various blocks and ATMA functionaries attended the programme.
