Zhavame Women Society Kohima (ZWSK) held its first general session cum seminar on April 9 at Razeba Public Organisation hall, Kohima, with Mrs Vechisalu Nukhu, Additional Secretary of Horticulture, and Ms Rekha Rose Dukru, entrepreneur, as the resource persons.
Mrs Vechisalu Nukhu speaking on ‘Women and culture’ underlined the importance of preserving culture in this fast changing world. Observing that many families speaks Nagamese or English at home today, she emphasised that women should encouraged their children to have the habit of speaking in their own local dialect at home. She also encouraged observing some traditional festivals, maintain hard work and respect for elders.
Ms Rekha Rose, speaking on ‘Women and education,’ said that women are the best agent to spread education. She said education is not only about learning to read and write but more importantly good education facilitates an overall development of a person. ‘With more educated women we can see more positive transformation in our society,’ she remarked.
In the inaugural session, Deo Movi, president of Zhavame Union, said women have a challenging role to play in the society and encouraged them to be active participants in building home and the world.
The new team of ZWSK would be headed by Mrs. Ajoy Domeh.
