Mokokchung, Feb. 9 (EMN): The winter coaching camp organised by Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA), which began on Jan. 7 culminated at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Mokokchung on Sat. Feb. 9.

The month-long coaching clinic was attended by 44 participants under the age group of 15 years under the guardianship of head coach Imayanger, Nagaland coach along with four other assistant coaches.

A culmination tournament was also held to observe the performance of the participants. Under the group ‘A’ Boys, Wapangmeren A Jamir was declared the winner and Deepesh Lama was adjudged as the runner-up.  In group ‘B’ Boys Sentiyatet clinched the winner’s title, he was accompanied by Imsor Longkumer as the runner-up.

In group ‘A’ Girls, Sunepbenla T Imchen was declared as the winner while Arenchila claimed the runner-up title. In group ‘B’ Girls, Kipangwala defeated Sentirenla Jamir to clinch the title.

Earlier, in the formal function, Imlisunep, proprietor of G Sports exhorted the players. He acknowledged the MDBA for producing great players who have brought laurels to the district in national level in the past and recently.

With support from parents and MDBA, he said young players in the district will definitely excel in the field of badminton with continued coaching camps in future too.

In this connection, he encouraged the players that MDBA Olympian Project can be fulfilled only if the present generation have the determination to compete in the international events.

“The thrill come only if there is tough competition, the pain you overcome today will strengthen you tomorrow. Pain is just temporary but greatness lasts forever,” he motivated the participants.

Temsuyanger, technical committee member while giving away the coach feedback asserted that coaching is like a school where the coaches will teach the techniques but it is up to the students to apply them in the field.

Asserting that Nagaland does not have a badminton academy, he also appealed the MDBA and parents to continue to organise coaching camp because coaching is the only platform to groom the young talents.

MDBA president Tiapokba informed that a follow-up coaching will start from Feb. 11 onwards and therefore requested interested participants to avail the coaching camp.
