The Uttar Pradesh’s Dadri lynching over beef rumours was the direct outcome of the over brimming enthusiasm of the Saffron diehards. Such incidents confirmed that India is passing through a phase of irrationality and orthodoxy. There is no gainsaying that the country will continue to witness the trend as long as this free expression and assertion of the Saffron crusaders are not checked. Much as we don’t wish and want it, the Hindutva movement has a big problem right now but Hinduism is definitely not the problem. We have been preaching this for a while now.
If it is not the superiority complex then what is it that is driving the Saffron diehards to push other religious groups to an extremely uncomfortable position? They are driven by their political calculations which are more of sectarian in nature and not by such benign goal of spreading the goodness of the Hinduism.
Of late, many have concluded that the depredations and loose talks attached with the Saffron brigade are failing the very idea of India.People think now that the actual beliefs of Hinduism are the mother lode of bad ideas, thanks to these irrational campaigns. Vocal crusade by these forces has made the people for the gross generalizations of Hinduism. In reality, the activities and campaign by these Saffron forces do not fit the caricatures projected by earlier Hindu leaders. Many of yesteryears Swamis, if they are here today, will be appalled by these dominant activities of the Saffron forces.
Today, permissive atmosphere of communalism has stalked our country. Unpalatable things have been said about the Christians and the Muslims by the Hindu nationalists ever since the Saffron party came to power. For this sole reason the atmosphere remains mired in a deep malaise. These activities have also made our country strapping for security and secularism. These Hindu Right elements just couldn’t be fine.
What is most conspicuous about these elements is their ridiculousness as they push their agenda vocally while dismantling the very foundation of equality. The whole unholy campaign may not be for the sake of holy cow alone.
