‘Slain cadre was not NSCN (K)’

DIMAPUR, JULY 4

The NSCN (R) has stated that it would not “remain a sitting duck” in the backdrop of what the outfit alleged was a “brutal killing” of one of its members by the Indian security forces despite full knowledge that the victim was not from the NSCN (K).
The NSCN (R) was referring to Friday’s Tamenglong encounter incident.
In a press statement issued today, the publicity wing of NSCN (R) stated that one of its cadres, Ningailung was “waylaid” by Indian security forces “while he was looking for the other cadre who did not return the previous night.”
The outfit said that the slain cadre was a member of NSCN (R) and “not NSCN-K as claimed by Indian Security forces.” It claimed that the security forces had killed its cadre knowing well that he was a member of the outfit.
“After the Chandel ambush where the Indian army lost 18 (eighteen) jawans many Indian leaders and Generals condemned it as an act of cowardice but the killing of Naga army who is in ceasefire with the GOI is also not an act of bravery either,” it stated. The recent attack by the army, according to the outfit, is not a new thing. Earlier the army took ito custody a “kilonser” of NSCN (R), Willingbou Zeliang and three others “for almost four days and three nights.”
“It is a clear indication that the Indian security forces are venting out their anger on the NSCN-Reformation, after they lost some of their jawans in ambushes by NSCN (K). For the Indian security forces it does not matter whether it is NSCN (K), NSCN (IM) or NSCN (R). For them it is India versus Naga, therefore, any Naga army of any of the faction is an enemy for them and they have little or no respect for the ceasefire agreement signed by the representatives of government of India and the NSCN.”
As such, the outfit said that it would not remain “a sitting duck but if at all need arises, we are prepared to explore and implore all given opportunity at hand.”
The outfit also demanded the government of India to clarify whether it had given a free hand to their army to go after NSCN-Reformation or not. “And if it is so they must issue a public statement and clear it so that, the room for doubts does not exist in future and in case of any misunderstanding the NSCN shouldn’t be held responsible,” it stated.
