Mokokchung, Dec. 17 (EMN): A group of youths in Artang ward pf Mokokchung town calling themselves “Mobocracy “ in commemoration of its 25th anniversary constructed and handed over a public address tower to the Artang Ward Yimten on Sunday at the Artang Community Hall.
The group, Mobocracy, which was formed by nine young people from the ward started off as a ‘male voice’ band way back in Dec. 19 1992.
During the formal handing over of the public announcement tower, a member of the group Ongchi Jamir said that the band was formed during their youth 25 years ago, when rock music was a trend. It was a time when they were young and ‘hot-headed,’ it was explained.
However, as they grew up, their friendship grew stronger; their ideals matured and today, after 25 years, the group became responsible citizens of the ward. They ventured to give something back to the society. The charity came in the form of a public announcement tower, said Ongchi Jamir.
The PA tower has been erected at the Artang Community Hall ground. It is 40 feet high and has three loudspeakers, a ‘state-of-art’ amplifier and microphones. It was informed that the entire project cost about Rs 1.5 Lakh and was constructed through contributions from the group’s members.
A member of the Artang Ward Council termed the gesture of the group ‘a remarkable, memorable and infrastructural tower.’ The ward’s council has expressed deep happiness and gratitude for the noble work done for Artang. Artang Ward Council and the citizens will forever remember the excellent work of Mobocracy, the group was told. The group is encouraged to continue their good work for the development of the colony.
Speaking on behalf of Artang Baptist Church, Deacon Dr Mapu termed the initiative of Mobocracy a good example for others to emulate. He said that the PA tower will benefit not only Artang Ward Yimten but also the church because the tower is located just adjacent to the community hall.
Ward elder and leader Lima Longkumer also expressed deep appreciation on behalf of families living in the ward. He encouraged the group members to continue with the good work for the community as ‘it is not only setting a good example to others but also contributing towards the beautification and development of the ward.’
The tower was dedicated by Artang Baptist Church’s Child Education Promoter Atula.
