The thumping victory that the BJP achieved in the recently concluded state legislative assembly elections especially in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand proving wrong even the pollsters has now become a vindication of the recent policies that the BJP government at the centre has implemented. In spite of the criticisms that PM Narendra Modi had to go through from many sections of the people especially his political detractors in the country, for now he has proved them  wrong.  The demonetisation of 1000 and 500 rupee banknotes was ridiculed and in some cases almost seemed mocked at in the world media as it was something that was not tried in many countries around the world.

It was only after almost 4 months since the demonetisation of the high-value banknotes that the CEO of World Bank, Kristalina Georgieva praised the move and commented that it would have a have a profound and a positive impact on India’s economy. She further commented that it would be studied by other countries because demonetisation was never tried in big countries like India. Such a conclusion by World Bank, that lends money to  developing countries like India, was the first vindication for team Modi who were firm on the stand that demonetisation will  curb corruption to a large extent in the long run.

However the biggest vindication for NaMo came from the electorates of the recently concluded assembly elections. In Uttar Pradesh it was able to get its biggest ever haul in the state with 325 seats in the house of 403. The alliance of the Samajwadi party and the Indian National Congress with  its young leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi did not create any magic as was expected. In Uttarakhand it also reversed the government where the Congress was reduced to just 11 seats that earlier had 32. Likewise, except for Punjab, the BJP led alliances are almost set to form governments in Goa and Manipur. The results have also proven wrong the many political rivals that had predicted the downfall of BJP in the current election because of the hardships faced by the common man after demonetisation. NaMo was somehow successful  in drawing a far brighter picture of the future for the common man in spite of the initial hardships faced by them post demonetisation.

In the region, though unlike the success of the BJP in scale, the move taken by the Nagaland People’s Front party in July 2009 to change its nomenclature to Naga People’s Front and spread its wings to the states where Nagas inhabit seems to have finally borne fruit. It had also faced delays then in the ECI for  approval on the change of nomenclature making it unable to contest the Arunachal Pradesh assembly elections in October 2009. It was finally confirmed only in 2010. It then contested  for the first time in Manipur in the 2012 assembly elections where it was able to get 4 seats.  Although it was unable to increase its tally in 2017, the Naga People’s Front party with criticisms both from within and without the party for its expansion policies seems to have finally proven wrong its detractors. The party is set to take a big role in the BJP led North East Democratic Alliance government  in Manipur.
