Dimapur, April 28 (EMN): A three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on Village Health Sanitation & Nutrition Committee (VHSNC) kick started on April 26 at Conference Hall of Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, with an aim to capacitate VHSNC or VHC (Village Health Committee) on all aspects of their roles and responsibilities given on the guidelines of government of India.
Welcoming the participants from the districts, Dr.Thanghoi Lam, State Program Officer (SPO) of NHM, expressed hope that the training will be a first step to improve the health sector in the State. He appealed them to take responsibility of implementing the entire health related program especially at the grassroots.Joint Director Planning and Project Director, National Health Project (World Bank), Dr.Vizolie Suokhrie, highlighted on the concept of Communitisation Act 2002 and the government’s plan to re-look into the contents of the Act, especially the composition of the committee in the village with equal gender representations. Our health indicators are low because we are concentrating only in the District Head quarter and not trickling down to the village level, he added. He further expressed his expectation towards the trainee in working intensely towards improving the health scenario in the state. Additional Director of H&FW Dr.Limaakum Jamir also appealed the trainees to be sincere and the training should be a participatory one. He added that health indicators are going down because we are not sincerely providing the services to the people especially at the grassroots level.
The three-day training will cover issues like community participation and need for VHSNC, its objective, formation, composition and responsibilities. It will also encompass the activities and outcomes of the VHCs and facilitating service delivery in the village.
After the training, trainees will impart training at district and block level.
The resource persons for the training are Rajesh Khartu Mousang, Project Officer-Operations (UNDP); Puni Kokho, Program Manager, Training of NHM and Amit, Community Mobilisor, RRC-NE.
The training is being organised by State Health Society, National Health Mission, Department of Health & Family Welfare.
The trainees consist of Deputy Chief Medical Officers, District Immunisation Officers, District Program Managers (NHM), District Media Officers (NHM), District Community Mobilisors (NHM), Deputy MEIOs & MEIOs (IEC Bureau, DoH&FW).
