Vestal Sankro is this year’s champion of Nagaland Spelling Bee

Kohima, Sep. 30 (EMN): Vetsal Sankhro, a class IX student of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur has emerged as the champion of the 6th Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship held at capital convention centre Kohima on September 29.
She was declared the ultimate winner after nailing two words ‘Kitchenette’ which means a small cooking area and ‘Plenipotentiary’ meaning a person, especially a diplomat, invested with the full power of independent action on behalf of their government, typically in a foreign country with ease.
Sankhro walked home richer with a whopping cash prize of INR 60,000 (highest individual prize in the state) along with a citation and trophy.
Zalino Mekro (class 10) from Little Flower Higher Secondary School Kohima bagged the second prize and received a cash prize of INR 40,000 and citation while Visakhono Yakhro (class 10) from St. Paul School Phesema and Keviseto Mekhro (class 9) from C.D King Higher Secondary School, Kohima were declared as third and fourth and received cash award of INR 20, 000 and INR 15,000.
The fourquarter finalist viz. Lisa Venuh (class 10) from Mount Hermon Higher Secondary School Kohima; Shanjothung Ngullie (class 8) from Dainty Buds School Kohima; Kasunga Victoria Kuba (class 8) from Model Higher Secondary School Kohima and Pithungo Kikon (class 7) from St. Marys Cathedral Higher Secondary School Kohima received INR 5, 000 each.
Speaking in the closing function, ADC Medziphema, Vikhweno Chale in her address as a special guest said this platform provides the spirit of competition for the students to learn more where such event would build courage and confidence for the students to aim for higher level of competition.
She lamented and wondered as to why there are no students from the government schools in the state. The students’ community were also urged not to forget the human values and ethics of life even when they become somebody in future.
Altogether 41 students from 21 schools from districts of Kohima, Dimapur and Phek participated in the 6th edition of the Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship.
With a vision to stimulate the minds of the students, develop proper usage of words and enhance the grammar and vocabulary, the Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship was conceived and conceptualized by the Fountain Club, Kohima in the year 2012 in partnership with SCERT.
