Venuzo Dawhuo is Chokri area’s wrestling champion

Kohima, Jan. 12 (EMN): Defending champion Venuzo Dawhuo from Thenyizu village defended his title as he overpowered his opponent Pfusato Tetseo of Khulazu Bawe village in the final match of the 27th meet of Chokri Area Wrestling Association (CAWA) held here at Khulazu Basa village ground under Phek district on Friday.
21-year-old Venuzo remained undefeated throughout the rounds and clinched the title in the final by winning both the bouts.
Venuzo walked home with a cash prize of INR 70,000 sponsored by CAWA, while runners-up Pfusato received INR 60,000 sponsored by Mhaseto Nakro, principal, Polytechnic College Atoizu. Besiihveto Ciimu in third position received a cash prize of INR 50, 000 sponsored by Ciekrotso Chiizho, class -1 contractor and fourth position Pusiihii Kezo received INR 40,000 sponsored by Zhovehii Kezo, Secretary, VDB Khulazu Basa.
In the freestyle category for U-18, Rajiivoto Porii beat Vezoneyi Ruho to win the match.
Earlier, the chief guest Dr. Chotisiih Sazo, Advisor, Social Welfare called upon the wrestlers to maintain fitness and discipline in order to achieve success.
Stating that wrestling have been losing its fame, he mentioned that ‘we don’t have enough wrestlers even in the village level’.
However, he improvised and said wrestling being the most important traditional game, Sazo encouraged the wrestlers to take it as a profession in order to bring laurels.
Sazo lamented that Chokri area wrestlers lack fitness and maintained that exercise and discipline is very important for the wrestlers. He further encouraged the wrestlers to learnt different techniques rather than focusing on the food dietary. He further hoped that such gathering will bring peace and unity.
Meanwhile Vivolie Kezo class-1 contractor gracing the occasion as the guest of honour reminded the players that there will only be one winner. Encouraging the wrestlers to give their best, he said ‘if you have trained enough and maintain fitness, one day you will achieve success’.
New office bearers for CAWA were also elected for the tenure 2018-20 with Zazhota Dawhuo as the president and Besuhta Swuro as general secretary. It was also informed that Thenyizu village will be the host of 28th meet of CAWA in the year 2020.
27 wrestlers from Chokri Area participated in the wrestling meet. While top 12 wrestlers namely Venuzo Dawhuo ( Thenyizu) Pfusato Tetseo ( Khulazu Bawe) Besuhveto Ciimu (Phusachodu), Pusiihii Kezo (Thenyizu), Khruzoto Tetseo (Khulazu Basa), Mudotso Thira (North Kikruma), Sezokho Ringa (Chesezu), Vetuzo Dawhuo (Thenyizu), Cuto Medeo ( Khulazu Bawe), Melevo Rose ( Thipuzu),Thepukhoyi Swuro (Chetheba) and Vecuto Rose ( Phusachodu) will now represent the CAWA for the upcoming Chakhesang Wrestling Association meet that will be held on February 8-9 this year at Chetheba Town local ground.
