VE-Vu cup football tourney held at Pungro

Dimapur, Jan. 7 (EMN): T. Torechu, Advisor for Evaluation, National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Nagaland, said that sports and games are an integral part of human life which enable to challenge in the various parts of sports arena, he said adding, games and sports brings different people of various sections of the societies to a common platform as ‘oneness’. Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, at the 4th VE- Vu Cup football tournament at public ground Pungro village on Jan 4, Torechu said that, the state government has a keen interest in the sports activities in order to uplift the sports lovers in the state and urged the sports persons to exhibit their talent in best way so as to recognised from the various quarters. He also urged the participants to keep aloof from drugs and alcohols and other social evil activities in order to compete with the various levels of competitions. Torechu, while pointing out said that, sports play a vital role in promoting a youngster generation which inculcate of our human life and also maintaining mentally and socially besides physical fitness and urged the talented players to preserve for ‘sportsmanship and sporting spirit’ so as to compete in the state, national and international level in the sports arena. Torechu further lauded the organiser for organising the tournament and uplift the young talented players from across the village/ area and urged to continue in the near future for the common profitable of the people in the area. Nine teams participated in the tournament, including, Rival sporting club, Aspen sporting club, Pungro Village Citizen Sporting Club, Young Brothers FC, Govt. employees’ union Pungro village, Jenty FC, Old Vongti FC and New Vongti FC. Pungro Village Citizen Sporting Club emerged as the champion of the tournament while Aspen sporting club won the runner up. Golden boot was awarded to Zhahlese of PVCSC while the golden glove was awarded to Litsemew of Old Vongti FC. Player of the tournament was awarded to Aselen of Young Brothers FC.
