Dimapur, Nov. 19 (EMN): The village development boards (VDB) are urged to maintain transparency in their financial dealings and that they should use funds judiciously for the people and development of their areas.
Member of the legislative assembly Y Vikheho Swu was addressing an event of the VDB in Pughoboto recently. He inaugurated the newly constructed office of the Village Development Board Association of Pughoboto in the Rural Development block of Ghathashi.
A media handout offering updates informed on Sunday that he addressed the inauguration ceremony. Swu lauded the efforts of the association in “successfully constructing the building to house different offices besides the facility of a conference hall,” the press release stated.
The legislator talked about the responsibilities of the village development boards to successfully implement various government schemes. He urged them to ensure the welfare of the villages. The local MLA said that the VDBs should maintain transparency and accountability of funds they receive from the government. They should utilize it for the uplift of the villagers in possible spheres, the updates stated.
“A strong VDB would ensure all round development and economic uplift of the village,” he said while also calling upon the people of the area to avail the benefits offered by schemes available with the central and state governments. Swu appealed to the VDBs in Pughoboto subdivision to work for the economic and social transformation of the area.
Delivering a short speech at the event also was additional deputy commissioner of Pughoboto Avelu Ruho, the press release stated. The officer urged the village leaders present at the event to use the VDB funds judiciously for the development of the area. She said that the proposal to set up a SBI branch in the subdivision was ‘under active consideration of the bank authorities and likely to be approved soon, which will solve the banking problem faced by people of Pughoboto subdivision,’ the press release stated.
