Various organisations condemn May 21 incident

Dimapur, May 23 : Various organizations have condemned the May 21 incident wherein an unidentified armed miscreant sneaked into the residence of Jackson Patton, son of the State Home Minister Y. Patton at Sovima on Saturday night and fired blank shots and took away two armed licensed weapons from the house.

NPF:  The NPF Central condemned the ‘horrible and terrifying’ episode and the attempted assassination in the strongest possible term and demanded that no stone be left unturned to apprehend the miscreant/s and that under no circumstances, such dangerous, excessive social menace be considered as stray incident.

“This kind of savage, excessive nuisance and barbaric crime needs to be curbed and dealt with iron hands and utmost austerity by concerned authorities and befitting punishment awarded to the perpetrators to root out all such crimes and lawlessness,” stated a press note issued by NPF Press Bureau.

CNTC:  The Central Nagaland Tribes Council said it was a terrorist act in the land when everyone is yearning for peace and appealed to the law enforcing agencies to book the culprit at the earliest possible time and take action according to the law of the land so that the motive behind it will be brought to the knowledge of all.

LHD: Lotha Hoho Dimapur said the unlawful intrusion by armed miscreant/s into the residence of Patton’s son at Sovima, late midnight of Saturday appeared to be well-planned and serious crime that calls for immediate action.         “Sheer providence had shielded Jackson’s life from the blood thirsty intruder.”      

LHD chairman T.L. Merry and general secretary Renathung Ezung in a statement said, “This kind of savagery and excessive nuisance and barbaric crime needs to be curbed with utmost austerity by concerned authorities and befitting punishment awarded to the perpetrators to root out all such crimes and lawlessness.” 

Considering the degree of the crime, that also involved indiscriminate firing at the building, and theft of two licensed weapons, the Lotha Hoho Dimapur, an affiliate member of Naga Council Dimapur, appealed to all law abiding citizens irrespective of colour, community faith or sex to condemn the attempted crime and help initiate stern action at the earliest.  

LSU:  The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU), Wokha in its strongest term condemned the ‘assassination’ attempt and unwarranted gun fire at the residence of. Jackson Patton, 1st Class Contractor and prominent social worker.

The LSU termed the incident as ‘very abusive’ not only to the concerned person and family but a ‘direct insult’ to the community in general.  The union seriously cautioned that it will not tolerate against anyone committing such atrocious crime to innocent citizens. 

LSU president Amos Odyuo and general secretary T.Phyobemo Kikon in a communiqué called upon every right-thinking citizen to condemn the incident and remain vigilant to do away with such transgressions in Naga society. Further, the union urged upon the competent authority to thoroughly investigate on the felony and book the culprits immediately.

VCS:  The Village Council Sovima condemned the incident in the strongest term and requested the concerned authority to consider the case seriously and book the culprit(s) at the earliest and award befitting punishment.  Further, a joint statement by VCS chairman Neikhriehu Kense, Youth Organisation Sovima president Neiketou Rupreo and Village Council Sovima secretary Khrieketoulie Suhou assured that it will extend fullest cooperation to the authority.
