The first Naga to join Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as a gazetted officer, Vitsoneinuo Khamo, DIG, CISF RTC at Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu, was awarded the president's Medal for Meritorious Service by the union minister of state for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on CISF Raising Day on March 10 last.

Dimapur, March 14 (EMN): DIG, CISF RTC Arakkonam, V Khamo, was awarded the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service on CISF Raising Day on March 10.
The first Naga to join the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as a gazetted officer, Vitsoneinuo Khamo joined the force in 1993 through Civil Service Examination 1991. She is presently serving as Deputy Inspector General, CISF RTC, Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu.
Khamo was the first CISF lady officer to be posted in the then mafia infested unit of BCCL, Dhanbad. Her professional competence and devotion to duty became evident during the initial days of her career where she earned commendation for her extremely bold and effective handling of the deadly mafia gangs in the Jharia Coal Fields, leading to successive recovery of stolen coal and copper wire worth crores of Rupees and high numbers of arrest of criminals during the 2-year stint at Dhanbad.During that period, she earned laurels and received appreciations from all quarters including the local villages, the management and CISF. During her tenure at Dhanbad, newspapers (local and national) reported about her acts of bravery and effective containing of coal mafias. She served as a role model for active and honest involvement never seen before.Because of her brave and excellent professional executing skills, she was posted to Inland Container Depot (ICD), Tughlakabad, Delhi. ICD Tughlakabad was known for its organised crime syndicates and hijacking of complete containers. Even at Tughlakabad, she fearlessly handled and tackled the notorious criminal gangs and within a short span by exhibiting extraordinary professional skills in planning, coordinating and executing an effective security system for ICD.
ICD chief general manager gave her a commendation and further requested CISF headquarters for an extension of her tenure. She served 4 years in ICD Tughlakabad.
In June 2001, she was posted to Patna Airport on promotion and subsequently to Agra Airport where she established a full proof airport security system and handled the airport security in a very effective manner. She was also praised for her efficient handling of foreign tourists and VVIP visits.
Because of her sincerity, complete dedication, leadership and commitment to raising security standards, she was especially chosen by the department to handle the security of TajMahal in the year 2004. During her two years service at Taj Mahal, she was highly appreciated by the local population, district authorities, ASI and the department for tactful handling and flawless security arrangements during the visit of foreign state dignitaries and state heads. She was appreciated for the high etiquettes and courteous behaviour of CISF personnel in relation to the thousands of tourists visiting TajMahal on daily basis.

UN assignment
In 2006, she was selected for a course at the Centre of Excellence for Stability Police units at Vicenza, Italy, where she developed professional competence to operate and impart training programmes for UN Peace Keeping.
In 2007-08, V Khamo was selected for UN assignment and served as Civ – Pol in Kosovo. Besides being awarded with UN medal and certification, she also won certificates of appreciation by the leader of US Civ-Pol for her exemplary performance as Civ-Pol.
On her return to India, she was posted to CISF Group Headqyuarters, Saket, New Delhi, where she exhibited high level professional leadership in handling of the total 11 units under her. Subsequently, she was posted to 5th Res.Bn, Ghaziabad, where she had to shoulder a number of important responsibilities as second-in-command.
She was also responsible and instrumental in setting up the first Dog Training Centre of CISF at Ghaziabad.
As Senior Commandant, she was posted to CISF Group headquarters, Chennai, where she successfully contained crime in 13 units under her and establish high standards of discipline. On completion of her tenure, she was posted to the CISF DAE, Kalpakkam.
Because of her outstanding and tireless performance, she was awarded the DG Disc and Commendation in the year 2014.

Promotion to DIG
In March 2015, she was promoted as Deputy Inspector General and posted to RTC (A) and also assigned additional charge of Deputy Inspector General, CISF NLC, Neyveli. While posted as Principal, RTC (A), she made all out efforts in raising the standards of training to officers and men.
She was nominated many times as the chairperson of Sexual Harassment Committee by seniors and conducted numerous enquiries during her tenure in Delhi based unit.
In her twenty one years of service, she earned number of appreciations/commendations from various authorities at the national and international level because of her consistent and tireless efforts to improve the working of the Force.
She was decorated with DG Disc and Commendation certificate during February 2016 in recognition of her outstanding performance in coordination with navy officials and mobilisation of resources efficiently in carrying out frisking and checking of stranded passengers and their luggage at Naval Aerodrome, INS Rajali within a period of 5 days due to unprecedented rainfall and its consequent floods in Chennai.
