Imphal, April 22 (EMN): Condemning the gang rape of two minor girls/students on April 14 night, the Women Committee of United NGOs Mission Manipur demanded speedy trial of the case and awarding befitting punishment to the accused persons according to the law so that this type of crime is not repeated.
Five women leaders representing the Women Committee also urged the concerned authorities to take up precautionary measures to check and prevent the increasing cases of crime against women in the state especially during special occasions and festivals.
On April 14 night, two girls along with friends were going to the Thabal Chongba festivities on a two-wheeler somewhere in Imphal East district when they were stopped by the seven persons and dragged inside a Maruti car and committee the crime.
So far seven persons including a juvenile accused of raping two girls were arrested and produced before the Court which remanded them to police custody till April 25.
Women Committee also appreciates the prompt action of the SP lmphal East and his team. Secretary, District Legal Services Authority lmphal East and other relevant bodies,Civil society Organisations and student bodies for their proactive roles.Women Committee also strongly appeal to the public and concerned authorities to extend their support and co-operation in delivering justice and in rendering psycho social support to the victims and their families. Furthermore Women Committee would like appeal Cyber crime cells to check and monitor any undesirable comments and pictures related to the incident.
