TINSUKIA, APRIL 27
On a specific input of presence of Self Styled Sergeant Major Rongmon Asom alias Mecuri , a wanted terrorist of ULFA(I) in Upper Assam, a search operation was launched by an Army team inTalpathar village of Tinsukia district of Assam on 25 April 2016. On 27 April 2016, Self Styled Sergeant Major Rongmon Asom alias Mecuri of ULFA (I) came in contact with the Army team and was neutralized in a fierce close quarter battle which lasted till 3 am on 27 April 2016.
An AK-81 assault rifle along with a magazine and some other items were recovered from the spot.
A thorough search operation is currently in progress. Self Styled Sergeant Major Rongmon Asom alias Mecuri was a dreaded ULFA(I) senior leader who led a group of terrorists and was active in upper Assam since a long time.
He was actively involved in killing/extortion activities in the area. His neutralization is a serious blow to the dwindling morale of ULFA (I) and will severely dent their resurgence effort.
