Dimapur, Dec. 01 (EMN): The district sessions judge of Mon has issued a judgement on Nov. 30 convicting two persons to life imprisonment for committing the murder of a taxi driver.
The convicted persons, Ngampai and Nokong, were sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering a driver and attempt on the life of the driver's assistant in April 2015. The verdict was given by District Sessions Judge Neiko Kanuo on Thursday after the crime was proven beyond reasonable doubt.
They had hired the taxi in Sonari in Assam on the pretext of picking up the ailing mother of one of the perpetrators from Mon, stated Vito K Chishi, the assistant public prosecutor (APP). He stated that, 'On the way to Mon Tuimei and Phuktong village,' the convicts shot the driver on the head and the assistant was shot on the right arm.
The driver's assistant managed to escape after a scuffle by biting one of the aggressors.
The same court also convicted another accused Pangyuh from a different case to undergo seven years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2014.
The APP also stated that under the Mon District Court about 90 accused were convicted since January 2017 for involvement in various criminal activities.
