Dimapur, May 25: Two personnel of the 40 Assam Rifles were killed, and four injured, when suspected militants ambushed their convoy at a place between Thannyak village and Changlangshu village in Tobu area, Mon district.
The incident occurred on Saturday at around 1.50 pm, according to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Tobu, Mudongoyi Chuzho.
The AR personnel were returning to their camp after a patrol duty when their vehicle was ambushed, the ADC said.
The injured personnel were evacuated to a hospital in Jorhat, Assam, according to a student leader from Tobu. So far, no organisation/group has claimed responsibility.
Patton condemns shootout
Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton issued a statement condemning the incident. “While Nagas are paving towards the final stage for long standing Indo-Naga political issues, violence carried out by any NNPG or any group is only disturbing the peaceful environment of the citizens, but it also it jeopardises the political talk of Naga issues,” he said.
Patton directed the state police to initiate a thorough investigation and “get into the details of the case and bring justice according to the law of the land.”He further expressed condolence to the bereaved family and wished speedy recovery to those injured.
