Twin sisters top in HSSLC exams

Kohima, May 12 (EMN): Twin sisters Rüyihülü Cükhamu and Rülevelü Cükhamu hailing from Sakraba village in Phek district and students of Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima, made history of sort by securing 9 (b) and 10 in the Top 10 merit list in Arts stream for HSSLC, which was recently declared by NBSE on May 8 afternoon.

With seven siblings in the family, the father passed away in 2015 and leaving the job of sole bread winner on their mother. The family is survived through meagre salary of the elder sisters and their late dad’s pension.

The younger sister Rüyihülü scored one mark over Rülevelü securing 88.9% and 89% respectively. The older sister regretted saying, “I should have studied for five more minutes.”

In the HSLC examination, the older sister scored better marks securing 82% while her younger sister scored only 76%. Their schooling was done at the Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima.

The family shifted to Kohima in the year 1995 and now stays at a rented house in Agri Colony, Kohima.

Talking to Eastern Mirror, the twins said they expected good grading but never among the toppers. With humility, they accredited success to God. They dedicated successes to her mother and political science teacher of the Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima.

They said the teacher was very passionate about his subject.

On asked about their study routine they said, “We don’t study every day, but when we do, we study for around 3-4 hours. We were sincere in our work and before a month for the exam, we would start studying for at least 6-8 hours a day.”

The 18-year-old siblings have been alike in almost everything they do. They said they want to join the teaching profession saying, “they have the passion for teaching”.

The toppers also have a habit of reading, ever since their sister introduced them to books. They say their hobby is to read books (novels) or listening to music.

On message to the students, one of the twins said “you don’t have to study 24/7, be sincere, listen to the teachers in class and do the assignment on time, that’s where you get one-two marks answer for exams.

The twins mother Komuni Cükhamu said, “I always pray for them everyday but I didn’t even know that my daughters will pass the exam in the topper list. I thank God, my prayers has been answered.”

On being asked how she manage to look after seven children, she replied that she rears pig around 4-5 every year which will be sold during the Christmas season. With the pension from her late husband, she was able to get enough money to pay their admission fee.

Stating that she had done her education till up to Class XII, the mother said she would teach her children till high school but was unable to teach them anymore after their high school standards.

Besides the twins, Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima, has produced four others in Top 10 merit list in the HSSLC 2017 Arts Stream. They are Elozüo M Saprüna (top#1) Roseline Pojar (top #3), Nühüvolü Chüzho (top #4), Vietelo Arüji (top #6).
