Dimapur, July 10 (EMN): A students’ organisation in Tuensang district has summoned teachers who allegedly were absent ‘without applying for leave’ during a tour the organisation, the Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako (YAA), undertook recently.
The union has also sought testimonials from teachers who are pursuing professional courses.
The YAA issued a press release to the media on Wednesday asking the teachers to report as summoned, which it stated was ‘necessitated to authenticate those genuine teachers who are undergoing professional courses duly permitted’ by the department of School Education (DSE).

The press release read: ‘The YAA hereby inform all teachers who were absent without applying leave during the YAA’s educational tour posted at various government schools within its jurisdiction to report on 17th and 19th July, 2019 at Shamator (in Tuensang district) and Pungro (In Kiphire district) respectively.’

‘This implies (sic) to teachers who are currently undergoing professional courses and those engaged with ‘substitutes’ as well. This has been necessitated to authenticate those genuine teachers who are undergoing professional courses duly permitted by DSE.’

The union asked the teachers to produce any official communication / order duly issued by the department/institution for validation.

“In the event of failure to produce/report on the aforementioned dates, those cases will be construed as ‘truant’ and that YAA shall not own responsibility in event of any eventuality that may arise due to wilful dereliction of official duty as government servant,” the union stated in caution.

Further, the YAA asked teachers who were selected by the department during the academic session of 2019-21 to submit a photocopy of their ‘permission order.’

The union explained: ‘Despite wide information, no official communication was made available to the concern school authority with regard to those undergoing training and hence, many teachers were found to be taking undue advantages and rampantly engaging ‘unqualified substitutes’ in their place.’

The union iterated that the organisation still stands firm on its resolution of ‘no proxy teachers’ and ‘no work, no pay’ policy in the entire Yimchungrü jurisdiction.

All the union’s constituents are asked to be ‘vigilant and be proactive in their respective schools,’ the press release added.
