Dimapur, May 26 (EMN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tuensang, has conducted one-day training for farmers in Alisopur village in Tuensang district on May 21, wherein knowledge on azolla, crop rotation, soil and water management in agriculture were imparted to the participants.

Imtilemla, ACTO (soil conservation), had trained the participants on how azolla could be raised both in the field and in homestead farming, its benefits as dual cropping with rice, and how to make azolla compost. She also elaborated its other uses for poultry, livestock and fishes.

She also highlighted on the importance of crop rotations: its role in insect pest and disease management, soil fertility management, and how a properly planned crop rotation would benefit the farmers if adopted under a permanent farming system.

The topic on soil and water conservation was covered mainly to create awareness among the farmers on soil erosion by rainfall in the fields and to instil a sense for natural resource management. She also explained on different soil and water conservation measures, which could be taken up in their fields.

Altogether 45 farmers and farm women of the village along with the village council members and church leaders attended the training programme.
