Dimapur, Nov. 4 (EMN): After nearly two months, the second season of the CASE Premier League came to a close on Nov. 4. The league came to a close with three exciting matches that were played out in two Chumukedima police grounds.
Earlier in the day, Trinity Sporting won 2-0 against Case FC with Atokito and Lipok Jamir hitting the nets for their team.
One of the most consistent teams, Trinity had already won the league in their penultimate game and continued their rich form by winning their last game.
Nizams FC sought to end their poor form on a winning note but had to be content with a draw against G-Sporting.
In what turned out to be an even contest, both teams sought to salvage some pride by winning their last league match. Vizo of G-Sporting scored a spectacular long range shot which gave them the lead. Nizams were however able to draw the game after a strong run by Themreiso who scored to equalise for the Nizams.
Powerplay had started their final match with the possibility of ending as runners-up but Tichuilung R Panmei of STAFAC FC had other ideas. In what proved to be the most dominating display by a team, Tichuilung scored seven goals, a league record, for his team to lead them to a 9-1 win.
Tesovisie Metha, Commandant of NAP Training Centre graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest and encouraged all the players, most of whom were working people, to continue with such activities and to lead a healthy lifestyle. He also gave away the team and individual prizes. Trinity Sporting were declared the champions of the CASE Premier League for the second consecutive season. Case FC were the runners up in this season.
The best player award was given to their captain Rijolong Aier of Trinity Sporting Club.
Tichuilung after his scintillating performance was awarded the golden boot. Temsumeren of Nizams FC walked away with the golden gloves for the second straight season. STAFAC FC won the fair play award. Yanbemo Lotha of G-Sporting, who is 54 years old, was awarded the senior most player.
