Training on communication skills for effective delivery

Dimapur, Dec. 1 (EMN): Realising that technical skills alone are not sufficient to make a good extension, officers of State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised a two days trainers’ training programme on “communication skills for effective extension delivery” from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1 for ATMA assistant technology managers.
The training programme was organised in order to improve the communication and extension skills of the functionaries and to assist them to teach and pass on the skills to farmers.
Resource persons for the training were deputy project director, SAMETI, Dr. Ithika C Swu and deputy project director, Tiajungla Longchar.
The training began with ice breaking session and workshop expectations. Topics covered during the training included concept, Meaning, process and factors affecting communication; key communicators – identification and their role in agricultural development; verbal, non verbal and written communication and communication constraints faced at field level – discussion and way forward.
During the exposure visit to Molvum village under Medziphema block, trainees interacted with the farmers. The trainees were also given hands on exercise and group presentations were delivered by the participants.
Feedback on the training was given by participants from all the districts.
In a valedictory address, special guest Dr. Watimongla Jamir, vice principal, IETC & in-charge Bio Chemistry Lab Medziphema, congratulated the trainees on the successful completion of the training and encouraged the trainees to take forward the learned skills and utilised it practically for transferring technologies to the farming community.
