Tradition of pre-election violence continues in Mokochung
Police arrests at least 24 persons for causing election-related riot in Mongsenyimti village

Mokokchung, Jan. 16 (EMN): In the run-up to the forthcoming state general elections, supporters of two intending candidates from Mongsenyimti village under 24 Angetyongpang assembly constituency clashed in the late hours of Jan. 14 last.
According to police source, the incident happened on the night of Jan.14 last, at around 11 pm when they received information about some disturbance and stone pelting amongst the two opposing supporters in Mongsenyimti village.
After reaching the village, which is situated some 30 kilometres away from Mokokchung town, the police authorities, were able to contain the situation eventually.
In the process 24 people from the village were apprehended on the charges of causing riot. It was also learned that during the melee, Maruti Alto car, and the wind shield of Mokokchung SDPO’ vehicle were damaged by stones though no news of injuries were reported till the filing of this report.
