DIMAPUR, AUGUST 2

Unidentified armed miscreants on Sunday morning killed a non-Naga businessman, identified as one Ashish Saha (50 years of age), inside the market complex popularly known as ‘shaam’ (evening) bazaar, at Signal Basti in Dimapur.
The cold-blooded murder occurred at around 11.30 am on Sunday, according to eyewitnesses. The incident has also caused yet another embarrassment to the district police as both the Sub-urban police station and the Assistant Commissioner of Police D-division are located right in the vicinity of the market where the murder took place.
The audacity of the armed miscreants to kill a person in broad daylight – right under the nose of the district police force –speaks volume about our armed security force in khaki. The scene of the crime is also located in very close proximity to at least two churches, even as the incident took place at a time when Sunday devotional services were underway at both the churches.
The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained. According to reliable sources, the victim was running “at least two or three shops” at New Market Dimapur. Prior to that, he was looking after one sawmill at Metha colony in Dimapur.
Eyewitness account suggested that at least two persons came on a white Maruti vehicle and ordered the victim to get inside the car. When the victim refused to comply with the order, he was shot in the head – above the left eye.
An empty shell of 7.65 country-made pistol was recovered from the scene, according to police sources. The victim was a resident of Babulal Kachari colony, Signal Basti.
