‘Tokhu Emong’ celebration begins

Wokha, Nov. 4 (EMN):
Advisor of Treasuries and Account and LMCP, Dr. TM Lotha has formally announced the launching of ‘Tokhü Emong’- the premier festival of the Lotha community- at Wokha local ground on November 4 as the special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lotha said the community celebrates Tokhü Emong as its main festival even though the ancestors had many festivals. He said Tokhü Emong is celebrated to invoke good harvest, which is marked with merrymaking. He encouraged the people to continue seeking blessings and at the same time thank to the almighty God as a Christian.

He also thanked the colonies of Wokha town for carrying out cleaning drive in their respective colonies. He also encouraged the community members to contribute to the society and show respect to one another for a progressive society.

Emphasising on good roads for all round development including social, economic and lifestyle, Dr. Lotha said the central government is working on the vision to make the northeast as the gateway of south East Asian countries in the near feature.

Later, Dr. Lotha pronounced the Tokhü festival opened and urged the public to foster love and unity among the Lothas.

Also speaking on the occasion, Rev. Yankey Patton exhorted the gathering to come together with a forgiving hearts on Tokhü Emong as practised by the ancestors and strengthen relationship among the people.

Folk songs and dance were presented by New Colony Cultural Club and Libemo Memorial School, Wokha.

Indigenous games competitions such as tug of war, top spinning, traditional fire making, catapult shooting, bamboo stilts walker race, spear throw and folk tale recitation were the highlights of the programme.

Later in the evening, a Lotha music competition was conducted with Sorenthung Kikon, CDPO, Wokha, gracing the event as the special guest.
