To be successful in their academics or subsequent professional lives, students need to not only work hard but also think out of the box: students tend to be ‘influenced by what others say and do without really knowing where they would really fit in.’ Hence, careful planning and a workable plan are vital for success, students of a recent career seminar in Mon town were told.On August 29, the Longkei Students Union (LSU) organized a daylong seminar on career guidance in the DRDA Hall in Mon town. The seminar was sponsored by the Mon Area Program of World Vision India, and conducted with the theme “Towards a new perspective”.
Dr. Manwang Konyak, vice principal of Konjong Higher School and Dr. Esther Konyak, assistant professor of Wangkhao Government College were the resource persons for the event.
In his discourse, Dr. Manwang said many students tend to be ‘influenced by what others say and do without really knowing where they would really fit in’. Hence, he said, careful planning and following it up with a workable plan, was vital for success, the vice principal said. ‘Traditional thinking limits your choices. Instead choose a career base on your skills and talents’, he said.
In the second session, Dr. Esther Konyak spoke about personality development, career development, entrepreneurial skills, and unconventional service sectors which have good prospects for students. She cited some examples of successful local Naga entrepreneurs. She urged the students to have ‘positive attitude’ if they wish to be successful in their endeavors.
Cluster Coordinator of World Vision India, Temjen Sangtam, spoke to the students during the event. The speaker exhorted the students to stay focused, ‘dream big’ and work hard. These will carry them forward in their endeavors in life as students or professionals, he said.
Likewise, program manager of World Vision India of Mon, Dr. L Khobung delivered a short speech during which he encouraged the students to work sincerely and to be self reliant and successful.
