Dimapur, July 30: NPCC President K. Therie today said that the responsibility on Congress party workers stands very big. Addressing the consultative meeting of 2-Dimapur-II Assembly Constituency Congress Committee (ACCC) at Conference Hall, Congress Bhavan, Dimapur, Therie said the elected leaders from the party having abandoned the Congress’ principles and ideologies and also that the “tall leaders of the past are no more with us”, the remaining party workers are the strength of the party and expressed appreciation while urging them to remain steadfast.
Expressing happiness on meeting the ACCC “who are the most important workers”, Therie reminded that politics is voluntary and appealed to party workers to lead decent lives and set an example for others to follow.
Also saying that the most important level of organization being the workers, he stressed on the need to multiply the number of party workers by propagating the Congress’ principles, ideologies and roadmap to the masses.
Reiterating on the open door policy of the Congress, he called upon all to join the political system and become a part of bringing about the desired change by electing a God-fearing government. On the development front, Therie said everyone is disturbed and Dimapur today has become like a slum where the roads including the National Highway resemble riverbeds and development activities have come to a naught. He said there is “no more reason for the people to vote for the present government” and that every voter must consciously vote and refuse to take bribes during elections as this was the reason why development eludes the state.
Adding that any form of ‘help’, ‘donation’, etc during election amounts to bribe, he said that leaders should help and develop irrespective of the time, and stressed on the need to educate the electorate to refuse bribes otherwise there is no responsibility for the leader to develop for he has bought the votes. He also said that given opportunity, the Congress would explore ways to open the doors of the banks to the youth of the state to generate entrepreneurship and employment.
Therie also called upon the gathering to live up to the image of Nagaland being a Christian state as exemplified by Jesus Christ to change the present perception outsiders have of Nagaland. Also citing the atrocities on Christians and vandalism of Churches across the nation and the trend of declaring important Christian days into official meetings by the BJP government, Therie said the elected MLAs have not raised one sound against such occurrences. He said while the RSS propagates the rule of Hindus and while the BJP government continues to negate the federal and democratic spirit of the nation, every man and woman should understand these issues and vote.
Therie also exhorted women to prepare for the imminent Municipal Elections and said that the party would soon have training sessions for aspiring women candidates.
Concluding his speech, Therie urged the party workers to remain steadfast and expressed confidence that the constituency would be successful in electing a candidate in the next general election and urged all ranks and files to prayerfully undertake all activities for their success. He also appreciated Kughato S. Aye President, DCC, Dimapur for his untiring efforts in organizing the party in the district.
Working President, NPCC, Ayang Aonok in his address led the gathering through a brief historical account on the formation of the political parties in the state and said that although the party has just gone through an abnormal phase, there are no longer leadership issues within the party. He said that the party stands united and that truth will prevail soon. He also said that political polarizations would start very soon and such polarizations would not be possible minus the Congress party which is gaining from strength to strength. Aonok encouraged all the Congressmen and women to remain diligent and work for the party and expressed confidence that the constituency would elect a good and capable candidate in the next general election.
Jonathan Ao, Gen. Secy. NPCC and PCC Member from 2-Dimapur-II A/c said that each and every party worker is responsible and an important part of the organs of the party. He called for all organs to coordinate and take collective decisions while assuring the support of the party which will give more importance to the ACCCs.
Also addressing the meeting, NPMCC Gen. Secy. Sentila lamented the deplorable road and draining conditions existing in the constituency and said that while the present MLA from the A/C although abandoned the Congress, he still represents the A/C and therefore it is still his responsibility to initiate development activities. She also appreciated the consultative meeting and said it was an encouragement and looked forward to the new enrolment drive.
Others who addressed the meeting were Kughato S. Aye, President, DCC, Dimapur and Bendang Yanger, Vice President, DCC, Dimapur. The meeting was chaired by I.
