Diwali, the festival of lights, which is celebrated in every autumn in the month of October or November. It symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. Diwali brings lots of happiness and brightness in our life. Before the day of Diwali everyone involve in the cleaning of their houses, buying new things , sweets, gifts, decorate their houses with lights etc. These all add to the joyous nature of the festival and it is a truly happy festival, which is one reason it is loved by so many.

Why do we celebrate this festival? Is this, the festival to enjoy only? What is its real significance in our life?So lets start asking to ourselves these questions. There is a reason to celebrate behind every festival and we need to understand the message convey through their celebration. According to the tradition link, Diwali is the day Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman reached Ayodhya after a period in exile and Rama’s army of good defeated demon king Ravana’s army of evil. Rama is welcomed back as the conquering hero and rightful heir to the throne. The epic battle of good (Rama) versus evil (Ravan) is another great theme of this festival. There is no physical demon called Ravan today but there is plenty of evidence of what he represented: anger, fear, greed , hatred. The greatest battle that we face in our lives today is not with other people., but with banishing these feelings and emotions from our own thought and actions.

Coming to the point that what we actually want to do on this festival, as we want to clean every corner of our houses , so lets focus on cleaning the negative thoughts of our mind together with dirts from our houses. We focus on buying new clothes, new utensils , Diwali is the time for new beginning. So, lets adopt new thoughts, new behavior, new ritual in our life. Lets choose one new habit to fill our life with peace and prosperity. We think of giving gifts to others. Dry fruits, diyas , chocolates or mithai. The most precious gift is we should accept others as what they are. We give sweets to other . But lets do one thing we pledgeto fill sweetness in others life through sweet talks, and respect.

We light diyas on this day. Diya means to give. To lighten up diya is good luck. So start giving love, happiness, respect to everyone .Through one diya we can light many diyas and we can make garland of diya… so light diya within to invoke divinity.

To understand the importance of the things we do in diwali we should treat each other equally. We should think differently that we are not bodies but souls. Purity, love and peace are the nature of our soul. We souls are all brothers and lets defeat the evils things and vices and bring the aura of positivity and good thoughts on this Diwali.
