DIMAPUR, JULY 27: Dimapur institution Tetso College celebrated its 23rd annual freshmen convocation on July 26 in the college. Y Vikheho Swu, minister for Road and Bridges was the chief guest of the event.
The event began with the inauguration of 3T Arena, a newly-constructed indoor badminton stadium and a sports complex, the college informed in a press release that was issued to the media on Tuesday.
The minister inaugurated said facilities. During the inaugural program, principal of the college, Dr PS Lorin, talked about ‘continued dedication to live by the college motto to “Strive for excellence” (and) to fulfill the (college’s) vision to have every Tetso member impact life and create a positive difference in the world.”
Speeches on behalf of the new students were delivered by Tsuyiba of class-xi and Kitiyala of BA first semester.
The director of the college’s ‘Student Services,’ Dr. Hewasa, also spoke during the event. He highlighted the achievements of the college during the past three years “where the college secured many ranks.” Likewise, he spoke about the “diverse student profile of 2016 with international students, rank holders and people from all over Nagaland coming to Tetso for further studies.”
In his address, the minister for Roads and Bridges Y Vikheho Swu addressed the students and spoke about his initial days as a student. He said: “Every new beginning is characterized by fear and insecurity. If we have commitment and believe in ourselves we can get rid of it and be successful.”
The politician also emphasized on ‘a few points’, according to the press release, for the students: “To embrace our Naga culture and the good values attached to it like simplicity, truthfulness, responsibility and dedication; to get rid of tribalism and focus on the collective good of the Nagas.”
The minister is said to have “pointed out the difference between factual knowledge and wisdom, urging the students to seek wisdom which according to him comes only from God.”
The minister appreciated Tetso College for having “a single student council” to represent all the students in the institutions, which he said was “one way of combating the evils of tribalism.” It was his suggestion that colleges in Nagaland should emulate the same student council structure as the one at Tetso College, the press release stated.
An informal session of music and entertainment followed the inaugural program, the press release added.
