Team YonKo.Mizoram win WCS India

Reuben Hnamte and Dominic Khiangte of team ‘YonKo.Mizoram’ won the World Cosplay Summit (WCS) India Final Prelims 2019 held at Niathu Resort in Dimapur on Jan. 19.

The winning team will be representing India for the WCS finals 2019, one of the largest global annual cosplay festivals, which will be held at Nagoya in Japan later this year.

Nine teams from various states of India contested for the competition out of which, team YonKo.Mizoram emerged as winners while the first runner-up was bagged by ‘RoyalWe’ followed by ‘Magnet Cosplay’ as second runner-up respectively.  Reika, international cosplayers from Japan, was the main judge for the event.

The winners, Hnamte (23) cosplayed as ‘Masamune Date’ and Khiangte (28) as ‘Mitsunari Ishida’ from the Japanese anime ‘Sengoku Basara: End of Judgement.’ The duo came all the way from Aizwal, Mizoram. They also won the YonKo Cosplay Fest which was held in Aizawl last year.

“We hope to bring entertainment and conquer challenges along the way. We aspire to bring fantasy into reality. We have been engaged into this creative platform for over five years and now our dream is to take this to the next level by participating in WCS and build our experience in cosplay further,” was the winning team’s introduction.

The winners of the competition received two Classe wigs, two sets of colour lens, and wig spray along with an invitation to the WCS 2019 in Nagoya, Japan. The first runner-up received two Classe wigs, two sets of colour lens, and wig spray along with  INR 8000 coupon from Anime Pop Mall (APM). While the second runner up received two Classe wigs, two sets of colour lens, and wig spray along with INR 6000 coupon, also by APM.

During the day’s event, a cosplay master class was conducted by Reika for the cosplay lovers. An additional event by the name ‘Classe cosplay contest’ was also conducted where M Angchiwa Phom was declared the winner.
