Dimapur, May 20 (EMN):
An institution, CT University Punjab, and a resource agency, Genius Career Guide (GCG) of Dimapur, organised an award ceremony to recognise teachers in Nagaland for leading academic development besides initiating cultural discourse and community engagement. The programme was organised to honour 90 higher secondary teachers from different schools of Nagaland for their selfless contribution towards their students.

The “best teachers award” ceremony was hosted at Hotel Acacia in Dimapur on Sunday. The vice chancellor of CT University, Dr Harsh Sadawati, was the chief guest of the event.

During his speech, Sadawati said educationists should understand and laud the important role, which teachers play in the overall development of the society. He gave a brief introduction about the university. The institution is stated to be an ‘industry-driven university of North India.’ He described about the university being based on ‘student centric approach.’ He asserted that the educational institutions in Nagaland should adopt the same approach where education is one that improves communication skills and aptitude of the students.

The co-founder of GCG, Momena Das, spoke to Eastern Mirror during the occasion. She said that students should not only be allowed to “copy and paste” from books from which they learn as these days people are selected for skills, not degrees.

“Traditional based teaching has to be stopped. Conceptual based study has to be adopted and the institution should focus more into ‘career based oriented courses,’” she suggested.

The main event of the programme was the award ceremony. The title of ‘best teacher’ was based on a survey that was conducted by university officials from among principals and students in Nagaland. The criteria included their involvement in society development, cultural activity, and development of students. Likewise, another was based on the subject taught by the teachers during the past three years. They were awarded with a certificate and a memento each recognising their contribution to the teaching profession.

The CT University has already felicitated teachers from Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Kerela, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Mizoram and Guwahati. This year, the university felicitated teachers from Nagaland.
