Dimapur, August 19 (EMN): In what could be termed as a major relief to people living on the other side of Dhansiri River connecting Dimapur city on Nagarjan road, Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome, today announced to construct a suspension bridge on priority.
It may be mentioned here that vehicular movement along the road was restricted following damage to the bridge since July 20. The over 100 years-old bridge was damaged following the recent unprecedented natural calamity. Damage to the bridge had aggravated traffic congestion on National Highway along the Purana Bazaar section. The other option was the Thahekhu village- Army bypass road to connect with other parts of the State.
Notwithstanding the damage done to the road, hundreds of residents from Kuda ‘B’ Khel, undertook a social work on Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner, who paid a visit during the social work, told media persons that the proposed construction of suspension bridge will take its course of time to complete as the concerned department is yet to receive materials for the suspension bridge. He, however, asserted that the government was contemplating to provide a temporary suspension bridge on priority for the convenience of the public.
Kuda Village Council chairman, Achübu Meruno, briefing media persons, said ‘it is the urgent desire of the village council and the residents of Kuda village build a seasonal bamboo bridge to enable light vehicles to pass through.’
The completion of suspension bridge construction will be subjected to the government supplying full equipments and materials to the village.
Meanwhile, Kuda village land owners Savi Liegise and Tsobidolie, whose land lies on both sides of the river, have benevolently given permission for temporary land use till such time the main bridge is restored, said Meruno.
