Dimapur, Jan. 4 (EMN): A day after communal tensions gripped Kiphire district with the district administration promulgating prohibitive orders, the Dimapur- Kohima Sangtam Students' Union (DKSSU) and Western Sumi Students' Union (WSSU) on Thursday made a joint appeal to their communities especially of Kiphire district to 'settle the matter at the earliest through open dialogue '.
The joint statement was appended by President WSSU Nito Achumi and President DKSSU Mongli Sangtam.
"We the officials of Dimapur- Kohima Sangtam Students' Union (DKSSU) and Western Sumi Students" Union (WSSU) held a joint meeting on 4th January 2018 at Dimapur and resolved to appeal the people of Sangtam and Sumi of Kiphire District in particular and within Nagaland state in general to settle the matter at the earliest through open dialogue to promote brotherhood among the two tribes within and outside the district," the joint statement read.
The students union of the two tribes also appealed all to refrain from 'misusing the social-media as well as creating propaganda without knowing/observing the reality'.
With the impending examinations for the student community, it also appealed to all citizens and the civil society to initiate peace missions to resolve the problem at the earliest.
