Kohima, Sep. 25 (EMN): The Poumai Students’ Union of Kohima (PNTMK) conducted its 33rd freshmen conclave and literary day on Sep. 23 at the APO Hall at Kohima.
The programme had in attendance too the ADC of Senapti in Manipur, ML Markson; ADC member of Senapati Alexander Maikho; and vice president of the Naga Students’ Federation, Boveio Poukai Duo as chief guest, guest of honour and special guest, in that order.
While reminding the students of the value of dignity of labour, Markson noted that the present generation has better privileges and opportunities to achieve comparing the past and that of their parents’ lives.
The students were also advised not to get carried away by the events happening today, but to stick to their vision, and work hard till they achieve their dreams. Also, Maikho urged the students to expand their horizons, be prepared to face any eventualities as they venture to the unknown and bloom where they are planted. Life, he said, was not an excuse but ‘it is what you are and what you make out of it.’ He maintained that the life of a student was the most ‘crucial and tempting stage’ where opportunities come only once. Therefore, he has urged the students to be serious in their studies and be more determined.
He advised the parents and elders also not to become discouraged when their children fail to meet their expectations. Rather they are to support and encourage their wards at every step of their life. The negative or positive approach of the parents will change the entire course of their wards’ lives, he said.
In his brief exhortation, Poumai Hoho’s (Nagaland) President SP Raile advised the students to ‘understand the true purpose of getting education and not to waste time for unnecessary things which may distract their attention.’
Stating that their primary objective is to complete their studies and pursue their dreams, he said that the hopes of the parents and the community lie on them. He has encouraged them ‘not to bring disgrace and disappointment.’
Loli John and Ashene Latsatüomai bagged the first and second prize in the extempore speech competition that was conducted as part of the event. Rozüne Rose and Loli John were declared the first and second prize winners in the debate competition that was held with the theme ‘advantage of professional courses.’
Ashene Latsatüomai and Paodü were declared as the Miss and Mister Fresher’s title.
