Parliamentary Secretary, Tovihoto Ayemi, releasing DSSU biannual magazine in Dimapur on November 16.

Dimapur, Nov. 17 (EMN): Elaborating that mere academic certificate was not enough to get employment in this competitive age, Parliamentary Secretary of Irrigation and Flood Control, Tovihoto Ayemi, has urged upon the students to equip themselves with vocational skills.

Speaking at the 39th general conference cum freshmen conclave of Dimapur Sumi Students’ Union (DSSU) at Town Hall, Dimapur, as the chief guest, Tovihoto told the students that they hold the power to the future which would be determined by how they think and act today.

Stating that not every student was destined to be a bureaucrat, technocrat, medical professionals or policy makers, he said the most important thing was to recognise where their interest and talent lay.

“Dig out the interest/talent in you and pursue it relentlessly with sincerity and dedication. Nobody is going to pay keen attention to where your talent lies and so it is for yourself to find and display that talent in you whether be in music, sports, entrepreneurship etc,” he added.

Tovihoto also stressed on the importance of keeping oneself fit and healthy and to refrain from indulging in consuming harmful substances. He pointed out that the rate of people affected with harmful diseases due to consumption of tobacco and its products were alarming and advised youngsters to desist from such harmful habits.

The event was attended by a host of DSSU units, advisors, non-Sumi tribal student leaders’ and Sumi community leaders.
