Students’ unions busy about with general sessions

Dimapur, Jan. 5 (EMN): The Sakipheto Range Students’ Union held its annual general conference from Dec. 3 to the 5th at Zhuikhu village.
The speaker of the event was Tokuho Suhoi Neho, a former president of Western Sumi Students’ Union, and working president of Dimapur District GBs’ Association.
In his address to the gathering, Neho challenged the students to be committed in acquiring knowledge and wisdom and help in transforming the society, the release stated.
The speaker called the students the future of the society and that they have immense responsibility in shaping the people and the society. He called upon the students to help the society free from corruption and isms.
Neho is also stated to have said that students’ community can play an important role in supporting the initiative of the NBCC for clean election.
Also, the Xuivi Students’ Union held its 71st annual conference during Dec. 27-29, with Israel G. Xuivi Zhimo, deputy commandant of the 9th IRB as the chief guest of the event on Dec. 28.
Speaking to the students during the occasion, the deputy commandant said that the ‘fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and thus one should humble themselves before God and live a disciplined life.’
‘Young people should respect elders if they want to be respected and regarded in the same manner by future generations,’ he said.
Emphasizing on the need to uphold and preserve one’s own cultural heritage, Zhimo said “Our culture and tradition is our identity and therefore it is important that younger generations must preserve the culture and tradition and showcase the same to the world.”
Various cultural and literary competitions were also conducted during the conference, it was informed.
