Dimapur, Oct. 7 (EMN): A total of 15 students pursuing their master’s degree from Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, were trained on molecular biology held in Biotechnology Hub, Nagaland Science & Technology Council (NASTEC), Kohima, on October 3 and 4.
The programme was jointly organised by NASTEC and National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) under Chemical Ecology Programme (NER). The resource persons were research scholars from NCBS, Bangalore.

The students were introduced to the field of molecular biology and its techniques. Basic techniques like DNA extraction from plant source and blood, primer designing for PCR, sample preparation and agarose gel electrophoresis were taught. The operational and functional aspects of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine were taught to the students.

The students were trained to handle the machine individually and develop programmes for their own experiments.
Dr. Nesatalu Hiese, scientist, stated that students were given the opportunity to get familiarised with the latest trends in the field of molecular biology and its equipments thus making them capable of conducting and designing their own experiments.
