Dimapur, July 2 (EMN): A students’ organisation in Mokokchung district has released what it called a “manifesto” that sets goals to ensure ‘clean’ electioneering in Nagaland.
The Clean Election Campaign Committee of the Langpangkong Kaketshir Mongdang (Langpangkong Students’ Conference) has committed to a 10-point “Clean Election Manifesto” as a strategy to making the campaign ‘fruitful for the benefit of the people,’ a press release from the organisation stated on Sunday.
The “manifesto” was released during a meeting that was conducted in Chuchuyimlang on July 1, the organisers informed. Members of the Langpangkong Tzükong Mongdang, Langpangkong Watsü Telongjem, and LKM leaders; members of federal units from Langpangkong range besides LKMCECC members were there at the event, the press release stated.
The resolution has a declaration that the principle of “one person, one vote” shall be upheld. Every citizen has equal political rights before the law of the land, the organisation stated.
“The manifesto declared that vote is not a purchasable commodity but one’s own political birthright bestowed upon us by the creator. It is, therefore, reaffirmed its resolution not to sell the vote but use voting right as powerful tool to rebuild our society honestly and courageously during election,” the press release stated.
The document promised also to let candidates to ‘share’ their visions “for educated as well as uneducated” in matters of employment and economic development. It assured of the LKM’s cooperation in developmental activities after the election.
“We shall endeavour to make the politics as service to our motherland as Politics is not money making business but purely Public service,” the resolution stated.
The “manifesto” covered “some urgently needed area” for reformation and “restoration of education, public health and human resources development in the state,” according to the media release.
Further, the document pledged to ‘work tirelessly’ to secure an upright and “clean” government to “restore the present indigent and undignified status of Naga parents and children who are the victims of injustice and corruptions.”
The LKMCECC has resolved to undertake a two-phase tour programme to reach out to the people with the message in every village under the Langpangkong range with effect from July 19.
The document explained the core principles of stated objectives in the “manifesto”: “The meeting also had a momentous moment of prayer, where members present solemnly denounced ten social evils in the line of Gandhian thought that ruining our society, which were identified as amassing wealth without work, eat without labour, politics without principles, parasitical life, knowledge without character, commerce without morality, pleasure without conscience, violence against conscience, nationalism without patriotism and talk more workless.”
The LKMCECC has expressed gratitude to the individuals who support the Clean Election campaign. It has appealed to every citizen to “remain strong and join hands” in the fight against the “greatest evil in our society today.”
