Strong storm uproots houses, trees in various parts of Nagaland

One person was injured while some animals were also killed following a strong windstorm and heavy rain that occurred in the foothill areas of Tizit, Tiru and Naginimora on May 6.
The impact of the windstorm uprooted trees in several places of the town. Houses including school buildings were collapsed, rooftops of several houses at different locations including Konyak Baptist Church building were blown away.
In Tiru, Banana and betelnut plantation were reported to be severely damaged. Uprooting of trees and betelnut plants were also reported in Naginimora.
DIPR report said the injured identified as Ms. Prying Konyak, a student of class X was hospitalized at PHC Tizit and later shifted to Sonari for further treatment.
The subdivision administration of Tizit extended immediate cash relief to the injured and severely affected families whose houses collapsed.
In Yoangyimsen, altogether 10 houses were damaged and a CGI sheet of community reserved water tank of Anlangkong Mopu was completely blown away and the light post was also damaged which was repaired by the concerned department immediately.
Officials from the administration department and Dobashi under SDO (C) Changtongya visited the village today and met the effected families and assured them full cooperation to take the matter to the government for relief and rehabilitation.
In VK Area under Zunheboto district, a strong cyclonic wind swept over on May 6 night damaging around 20 houses in Ajiqami, Satami, Maromi village and VK town including Ajgammi Baptist Church building.
The damage also included other structures like signboards and hoardings in the area. Many trees were also uprooted which blocked and hampered the vehicular movement.
However, there were no reports of injured persons till the filing of the report. District administration led by SDO (Civil) VK Town led by Kikumsangla visited and verified the damage on the spot and met the affected families.
