Dimapur, Dec. 6 (EMN): Kohima district has announced to launch the third round Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) beginning from December 7 to 14.
Dr. Rupert Peseyie, DPO (RCH-UIP), has announced this during the meeting of the District Task Force held in the DC’s office chamber, Kohima, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh Soundararajan, on December 5 with the participation of representatives from Social Welfare Department, WHO and UNDP.
Dr. Rupert Peseyie made a comparative report of immunisation coverage in the first and second round of IMI. He informed that the team could cover 84% in the first round while in the second round it covered 89%. He was positive that by the fourth round the district would be able to achieve 90% as envisioned by GOI. He has stressed on the importance of community participation and activating the stakeholders to ensure all children below two years are vaccinated.
SMO (WHO), Dr. Sheila Longkumer, presented a report on the household survey conducted in the last two rounds of IMI. She stated that 93 children were surveyed out of which 29% were found unvaccinated and 6% partially vaccinated.
She mentioned that fear of “Adverse effect following immunisation” and “Lack of awareness” were the two main reasons for not having a child vaccinated. In this regard, she mentioned that the frontline health workers need closer supervision adding key messages regarding immunisation should be imparted to the mother during outreach activities.
With regards to vaccine stock, Project Officer (UNDP) Rajesh Khartu Monsang, stated that there is sufficient vaccine in store for the upcoming IMI adding that the temperature excursions are being closely monitored at the District Cold Chain Point through eVIN and MYeVIN app.
Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh Soundararajan, in his closing remarks, stated that holistic re-orientation training needs to be imparted to the frontline workers so that key messages on immunisation are imparted to the beneficiaries. He also mentioned that a field supervision and mid round review of the programme would be held during the third round to ensure tighter supervision.
In a similar programme, Dimapur District Task Force (DTF) held a meeting on December 5 in connection with the third round IMI in the DC’s office chamber.
Presenting a comprehensive study during the first and second rounds, Dr. Rebecca Y Sema, DPO (UIP/RCH), stated that a total of 2020 children were immunised while 266 pregnant women were immunised. She also presented the block wise performance status.
Sushil Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur and chairman DTF, has requested all allied departments and stakeholders to continue their support and cooperation for the successful implementation of the programme.
