State observes Oral Health Day

Dimapur, March 20 (EMN): Directorate of Health & Family Welfare (DHFW) observes World Oral Health Day under the theme “Live mouth smart” on March 20 in its conference hall.
Dr. L Watikala, Principal Director DHFW, chaired the programme and welcomed the gathering which was followed by a short presentation and address on the theme by Dr. N Savino, Additional Director & SNO, NOHP.World Oral Health Day is observed on March 20 every year to support the improvement of oral health worldwide. Dr. N Savino, in his speech, elaborated on the two concepts of the theme “Live mouth smart.” He emphasised that mouth is essential for gestures people take for granted such as chewing, talking and smiling. He also highlighted oral health as a window to general health and freedom from preventable pain well into old-age.He said ‘Live mouth smart’ places emphasis on the smart decisions that people can take about oral health throughout life by preventive measures – good oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups and by self-managing oral disease risk factors – smoking, alcohol, sugar etc. He further made an appeal to the gathering to make a smart decision today to have a “Smart oral health” in order to have “Smart and healthy life.”
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks pronounced by Dr. John Sweyievisa, Director (Health).
Phek district also observed World Oral Health Day at District Hospital conference hall, Phek, on March 20.
Dr. Reyosalu Lase Vizo, Senior Dental Specialist DH Phek and resource person, highlighted on the significance of World Oral Health Day which is celebrated across the world on March 20 every year with the aim to promote awareness about oral health and the importance of oral hygiene and the preventive measures.
Through power point presentation, she presented the gatherings on how to make smart decisions regarding oral health such as adopting good oral hygiene habits, safeguard oral health and avoid risk factors.
The resource person also stressed on the golden rules to have healthy and functional teeth which helps in mastication, singing, blowing, helps in maintaining symmetrical facial profile etc.
Dr.Wetshelo Tsuha, Senior Child Specialist DH Phek, exhorted the participants which was attended by medical officers of DH Phek, nurses and staff.
