State legal service members attend national conclave

Dimapur, March 17 (EMN): Judge Gauhati High Court and executive chairman of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority, LS Jamir and member secretary Mezivolu T Therieh have attended the two-day 16th All India Meet of State Legal Services Authorities at Guwahati in Assam on March 17 and 18th.
The meet was hosted by National Legal Services Authority and Assam State Legal Services Authority.
Minister for Law and Justice and Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, Ravi Shankar Prasad, inaugurated the meet.
Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal delivered special address and also released NALSA’s Coffee Table Book – Celebrating 30 years of enactment of Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 and documentary film.
Judge Supreme Court of India and executive chairman of NALSA, Rajan Gogoi delivered keynote address while Ajit Singh, chief justice of Gauhati High Court and patron-in-chief ASLSA delivered welcome address.
During the conclave of the executive chairpersons of SLSAs, chairpersons HCLSC, member secretaries SLSAs deliberated on agenda on organisational issues and complete digitisation of entire functioning of legal services institutions, utilization of legal aid fund, need for training of secretaries of DLSAs, use of artificial intelligence in legal services, legal services to under trial prisoner/convicts etc. were discussed.
Executive chairpersons of SLSAs, HCLSC and member secretaries SLSAs from 36 state and union territories of legal services authority attended the meet.
Construction workers registration camp in Wokha
A total of 193 construction workers were registered under the Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers scheme during the legal services camp in Wokha on March 16. This was informed in a press release by the legal authority.
The camp was organized by the Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority in collaboration with office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Wokha.
The WDLSA team of panel lawyers and para legal volunteers acted as a bridge between the construction workers and the nodal department by identifying the construction workers through the visitation of construction sites and door to door in Wokha town and nearby villages.
During the camp, the officers of Labour department apprised the beneficiaries of the schemes in local dialect before the registration.
Around 358 beneficiaries turned up for the camp and availed free legal aid rendered by panel lawyers and PLVs.
Also, the WDLSA conducted UTRC quarterly meeting at Legal Aid Clinic District Jail in Wokha on March 15.
The committee reviewed the status of all the under trail prisoners and convict and also inspected the prisoners and the jail.
There are eight convicts and 14 UTP currently lodged at the jail. After interviewing the UTP the committee referred 3 UTP to legal aid members, it informed.
