Dimapur, Jan.13: Friday saw Zungamedem and Sovran book their place in the quarter finals along with Titans and Brotherhood in the ongoing MDCA Inter Club T20 Cricket Tournament.
In the first match Zungamedem chased down a target of 86 runs set by Zero Boys in 16.1 overs losing 4 wickets with the help of Funit and Moalong who scored 19 and 14 runs respectively. For Zero Boys, Along took 4/17 and became the leading wicket taker of the tournament. Earlier Zero Boys put up a small total of 85 runs losing all their wickets in 19.1 overs with Moatemjen top scoring with 17 runs. Bendangwapang 3/11 and Temjentoshi 2/17 were the pick of the bowler for Zungamedem. With this win Zungamedem top their Pool table with 3 wins out of 3. The other team to qualify from the Pool is awaited as it will be decided after tomorrow’s first match.MDCA T20 CRICKET TOURNAMENT
The second match of the day, a totally resurgent team of ADC Tuli XI pulled off an unlikely victory as they beat last year’s finalist Sovran CC in a very low scoring encounter. Sovran bowlers did everything right and they managed to restrict ADC Tuli XI for just 78 runs in 16.1 overs. Merenchemba, Temjenrenba and Lumong picked 2 wickets each for Sovran CC. Only Temjenjungshi managed to cross the double digit mark scoring 14 runs. The drama unfolded in the run chase when Sovran’s batsman brought their own defeat by not taking the credit for the fine bowling display by ADC Tuli XI bowlers in any means. But it was mainly in the decision of the Sovran team who instead of trying to secure the match first went after the run rate to qualify as the pool leader which cost them the match. They got off to a flying start with their openers Yongsamong 22 runs and Imtisunep 12 runs putting on 45 runs in the first 4 overs. It looked like Sovran CC could achieve their target easily but with the change of bowlers in the form of Hazarat Adam and Temsuinba changed the whole feature of the match . Both accounted for all the 10 wickets to fall for Sovran as Hazarat finished with 6/12 in 4 overs while Temsuinba took 4/15 as Sovran were bowled out for 69 runs falling just 9 runs short of the target. Apart from the openers none of the Sovran batsman could score significantly with 5 of their batsman getting out on nought without bothering the score board.
Though Sovran lost the match they managed to qualify for the quarter finals through their superior net run rate. Pool A is thus decided with Titans CC topping the group and Sovran CC qualifying behind them.
